Ferrari extend Felipe Massa contract
Felipe Massa will remain as a Ferrari Formula One driver until the end of 2012 after the Scuderia announced they had extended his contract.
Massa will remain alongside Fernando Alonso for next season after much speculation that his time at Ferrari was over.
There were suggestions that Renault driver Robert Kubica would be the man to take Massa’s seat in 2011, with a deal reportedly in place. However, Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicalli revealed before the Turkish Grand Prix he was certain Massa would remain in Ferrari overalls beyond 2010.
The Brazilian returned to Formula One this season after suffering a life-threatening accident when he fractured his skull during qualifying at last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
“We wanted to show proof of stability for the future, believing in the worth of a driver pairing that is without equal in terms of talent, speed and its ability to work together for the good of the team,” said Domenicalli.
"I am happy to be given the opportunity to drive for Ferrari for a further two seasons. It is a matter of pride for me to be able to continue working with a team that I regard as a second family,” said Massa.
Massa currently finds himself sixth in the drivers’ world standings, 26 points behind leader Mark Webber of Red Bull.
