Ferrari finally come up with a name for their new car, term it F150 degrees – Formula 1 news
The new Ferrari call was originally called the ‘F150’ as a tribute to Italy’s unification in 1861 but since the American car manufacturers Ford had used this name for one of their cars before, Ferrari were forced to change its new car’s name and as a result,
they have named their new car as the ‘Ferrari 150 degrees.’
Ford accused Ferrari of infringing its trademark for their F-150 truck as a result of which, Ferrari decided to change its new car’s name before the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season. The 2011 Formula 1 season’s first race is expected to take place
in Australia on March 27, 2011.
“In order to avoid the slightest risk of anyone confusing a Formula One car with a pick-up truck... the men from Maranello have decided that the car will lose the F that precedes the number 150 and which stands for Ferrari,” the Italian team told the media.
Nevertheless, the team wanted to avoid any type of confusion regarding its new car’s name in the 2011 season.
“It appears that this could have caused so much confusion in the minds of the consumer across the Pond that, at the same time as losing the F, the name will be completely Italianised, replacing the English "th" with the equivalent Italian symbol,” according
to the team.
Ferrari are quite confident about their 2011 run as they believe that they have produced a car which is going to be competitive enough to challenge teams like Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren once again this year for the titles.
Ferrari finished in 3rd place in the constructors’ standings in 2010 even though Fernando Alonso finished in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings just 4 points behind the 2010 world champion Sebastian Vettel. The main reason why Ferrari
were unable to give a good overall constructors’ performance statistically was that Felipe Massa was unable to score a sufficient amount of points for his team.
Felipe was the only driver out of the three top running teams’ who was unable to compete for the drivers’ title. Massa blames the tyre compounds introduced by Bridgestone for the 2010 Formula 1 season for his failure mainly but he is optimistic about his
2011 run.
The team is satisfied with its new car to an extent currently but they are going to make some more improvements before the 2011 Formula 1 season begins.
This is going to be the first Formula 1 season in the history of the sport that will have five champions on the grid namely Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel.
