Ferrari fix front wing issues ahead of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari have made modifications to their front wing design in the aftermath to Felipe Massa’s car front wing flexing wildly during the Indian Grand Prix.
The wing on Massa’s car front wing’s plates sparked against the track during the Indian Grand Prix and dew some attention for the wings wild flapping as if it was made of paper.
Ferrari were flabbergasted at the behaviour of the front wing on Massa’s car as Fernando Alonso’s car did not suffer the same issue. They said that they will investigate the issue after the Grand Prix concludes in India.
Ferrari’s technical director Pat Fry said that the new wing is part of an updated package for the 2012 car and has already shown improvement in the performance of this year’s car when it was first tested in Korea.
However, they still need to understand the nature of its behaviour and have to tweak it accordingly in order to squeeze the optimal performance ahead of the next outing in Abu Dhabi.
“The design office is now concentrating solely on next year's car and that work is at a reasonably advanced stage in terms of mechanical components and the car's bodywork,” Fry added.
“As for what we are doing at these last two races, we will continue to work on developing new concepts for next year's car. Some of the work takes as its starting point the very final development of this year's car and some of it comes from the new design
this is valuable in terms of getting an understanding of different work methodologies and also gives us an early understanding,” he further added.
Fry also emphasised on the work at hand, stating that the main priority at the moment is the development of the new car for 2012, which he said was in an advanced stage in terms of readiness for the next season. He also said that Ferrari will be pushing
hard to give a good performance in the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix so that they can achieve a podium position.
It will be interesting to see how the tweaks to the front wing behave in the upcoming Grand Prix.
