Ferrari forced to cancel Monday test at Barcelona after ‘rules clarification’ – Formula 1 news
Ferrari have been forced to cancel the plan to test drive at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona on Monday and have planned to run in the second test with the rest of the teams from Thursday to Sunday.
Prior to this, Ferrari had to cancel the test on Monday too, along with the other teams during the first pre-season test held at the Jerez Circuit, Spain due to rain.
The team have declared, in a brief press release that due to a ‘new clarification’ of the Sporting Regulations, they had to relapse to the original plan of the test which was to test drive from Thursday to Sunday.
However, Ferrari had stated earlier that the team would run from Friday to Monday while extending the test drive in the company of Red Bull Racing.
“A further change of plan for the final test session prior to departure for Australia,” read the Ferrari press release. “Based on a new clarification of Article 22.4 of the Sporting Regulations, which was sent to the teams late yesterday evening, it is no
longer possible to run on Monday 5 March: as a result, the test schedule for Scuderia Ferrari and the other teams that had originally decided to follow this option now reverts to that of the majority, running from Thursday 1 March to Sunday 4 March.”
However, the order of the drivers remains unaffected. Felipe Massa will be testing the car F2012 on Thursday and Saturday while Fernando Alonso will be driving on Friday and Sunday, in the second test.
Moreover, Ferrari and Red Bull had made announcements earlier that they would run from Friday, March 2 to Monday March 5 during this week while the rest of the teams would follow the original plan of the test and would test drive their cars from Thursday,
March 1 to Sunday, March 4.
Although, Red Bull have not stated anything regarding the issue of test schedule but every team is bound to follow the instructions regarding the test schedule.
