Ferrari gulps a champaign and prepares for another
Ferrari continues to be jubilant and ecstatic for its last week’s victory at Singapore Grand Prix. As the entire factory and drivers cheered, the team president, Luca di Montezemolo joined the squad to pay tribute and express his gratitude to all, for their
sheer hard work. This victory marked the second consecutive win of the Italian team as they were able to stand on the podium last month also at their home town.
The team gathered at their Maranello factory to rejoice and celebrate their victory of the Marina Bay Circuit, which marked the fourth race win of the team driver, Fernando Alonso. This success was a crucial and timely one for the team as it pulled them
back into the battle for the Constructors’ Title after a gloomy mid-season.
While attending the triumph party, Montezemolo said that the victory has not been bestowed upon them rather they have raised themselves high to get it. He was glad to add that it is the fruit of each and every person in the squad, ranging from the people on
the pit wall, to everyone in the pit stop. He continued telling that everyone in the garage as well as the hard working people in the factory together made it possible for the drivers to bring home these points. He further added that the drivers out on track
pull really hard to get the most out of what they are provided with.
He exclaimed, “I am proud to be your president and I am pleased for (team principal) Stefano Domenicali and all his people who never gave up when things seemed difficult. This is the team I want: made up of people who go about their work quietly, who do
not get downhearted when facing difficulties and who keep their feet firmly on the ground when things go well again.”
Ferrari had a good start of the season as Fernando Alonso bagged victory at the season opener in Bahrain while his teammate ended at second place. Thus, the twosome brought home 53 points, right at the first race. However, the team hit a purple patch soon
after and was not able to recover till after the mid season.
Only a few races back, the team got its momentum back, and then there was no stopping to it. Only in the last five races the team has collected 154 points. 20 more than their closest competitor, Red Bull which has packed 134 in this time. On the other hand,
Ferrari has gathered 73 more points than McLaren, who not long ago topped the Constructors’ Championship.
At the same time, the Ferrari driver, Alonso has made a big leap settling himself at second place in the Drivers’ Standings, being shy of just 11 points for the leader, Mark Webber.
Despite all the big leaps that the driver and the team has been successful in making, they still stand at third place, 40 points behind McLaren in the Constructors’ championship. While Red Bull occupies the top place with three hundred and eighty three points,
64 more than Ferrari.
Just as Ferrari celebrates their victory, they know that this is not the time to relax and enjoy rather they now need to work even harder than ever before. “We are on the right road, but the difficult part is still ahead of us,” Domenicali concluded saying.
“Having been confronted with making up as big a gap as the one we faced just over two months ago, the effort becomes even more arduous as one gets closer to our goal and when every point seems as heavy as a rock. Striving for total reliability, improving
performance, sticking to our working practices, concentrating at all times and, above all, keeping calm: that is the recipe we must stick to in the coming decisive weeks.”
