Ferrari in for another “difficult weekend” – Fernando Alonso
Ferrari had a disappointing Friday in Malaysia as both its drivers were unable to achieve promising results at the first two-round Free Practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Felipe Massa scored the 6th fastest time even though he scored a legal lap.
On the other hand, Fernando Alonso scored the 9th fastest time of the session even though the team vowed to improve its car and compete against the top running teams this weekend.
“Given how things went today, it looks like being a difficult weekend, but we will do all we can to get close to the quickest. Today, things did not go well and we struggled to find a good balance on the car, so this evening we will look at how we can improve”,
said Alonso.
The team spent a lot of time during the first free practice session in order to carry out some constant speed tests for aerodynamic purposes.
However, during the second session, Alonso and Massa were unable to score times as fast as Red Bull Racing Team, McLaren, or, Mercedes GP, even throughout the session as most of the teams conducted some heavy fuel runs on soft tyres.
The two-time champion as a result, stated that his team is not in a good position and they won’t be able to challenge for the victory at the upcoming race in Malaysia.
“On a track like this, with such variable weather and with tyre degradation being what it is, there will be a lot of factors in play in the fight for the top places and just being quickest will not be enough”, added the Spaniard.
Fernando claims that the team did a lot of work on their car’s aerodynamics in order to understand the problems they faced at the Australian Grand Prix. It seems that the team has not been able to identify these problems up until now and as a result, they
are suffering.
Nevertheless, the two Ferrari drivers are hoping for best possible results at the upcoming race and they are hoping that their team might pull off a miracle before the qualifying session, which is expected to take place this Saturday at the Sepang circuit.
