Ferrari insist that they now understand their hard compound tyre issues – Formula 1 news
Ferrari have been struggling to perform with the hard tyres in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season so far as they have been facing some problems in warming up the tyres which was quite evident at the Spanish Grand Prix in May.
Fernando Alonso led the race for around 20 laps during the time when he was using soft tyres. He made an excellent start as he went from 4th place on the grid to the 1st place before the first corner of the track.
However, as soon as he shifted to the harder compound, Alonso’s performance deteriorated immensely and before the race ended, race winner Sebastian Vettel and 2nd place holder Lewis Hamilton overlapped the Spaniard which was quite embarrassing
for the team.
Massa has been struggling to perform since the beginning of the season while Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren have been pretty much on equal terms when it comes to racing. In qualifying on the other hand, the Red Bull Racing team has been dominating this
season so far with a perfect pole position scoring record.
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry recently stated in an interview that the team is working on a solution for this problem.
“Trying to makes the hard tyres work is quite difficult and, if you look at some of the smaller teams they could not get the hard tyre working at all. So you have quite a large spread of the speed of various cars and that grows as the tyres get harder,”
said Fry.
He added that the team is hoping to solve some other problems as well and since the team has now started to understand its car’s problems, they are hoping to score some good performances in the near future.
“They were giving us some particular issues that exaggerated the problems that people have on the hard tyre. Hopefully we have an understanding of it now, and we've been working on fixing it,” said the technical director of Ferrari.
The upcoming Canadian Grand Prix is going to be very important for Ferrari and it is going to be interesting to see how McLaren and Ferrari perform as compared to the Red Bull Racing team.
