Ferrari looking to improve F2012 ahead of the European tour – Formula 1
Ferrari are looking to work day and night to give their drivers a better car for the 2012 season.
The team went through a technical team overhaul and since the team’s president Luca di Montezemolo has requested that the team should come up with a winning car.
The technical team in result came up with Ferrari F2012 that became the biggest disappointment for the team.
The car came out in the pre-season tests and it faced technical difficulties, balance problems and traction issues. Ferrari technical driver Pat Fry admitted after the pre-season tests that the car might find it difficult to get podium finishes.
Luca di Montezemolo was naturally disappointed and hoped that it would not be the case as Fry explained and hoped that the team can improve itself and so far in the season after four races it seems Ferrari is still in the wilderness as to how they can improve
the car.
Even though Fernando Alonso helped the team win the Malaysian Grand Prix it is still evident that there is a lot of work required to improve the car.
Team principal Stefano Domenicali talked about the team’s plans and how they are looking to improve and said, the first cycle of four races came to an end and so the team can make a very early first assessment. Clearly the camp is not happy with the way
the season began but, after the winter tests, the management knew the first four races would be very tough.
He said, “We managed to limit the damage, especially in the Drivers’ championship, in which Fernando Alonso is fifth, just ten points off the leader. However, it is equally clear that now we must step up a gear, right from the next race. Our engineers are
well aware of this and are working day and night to give our drivers a much more competitive car than we have seen on track in these first four races.”
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as it tests its updates at the Mugello test scheduled for May 1. It will give an indication of where the team stands ahead of the European season.
