Ferrari must do more for final two races of 2012 – Formula 1
Ferrari have been deemed as one of the strongest contenders in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and they earnestly need to do more for the final two races of the season so as to help their driver, Fernando Alonso in winning the drivers’ title.
Alonso has impressed everyone with his tremendous driving skills and has performed incredibly well even with an incompetent car. He had led the drivers’ championship for most of the time in this season but his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing
is presently at the top of the rankings with a lead of 10 points over the Spaniard.
It will be important to mention that the 31-year-old lost some crucial points because of his unfortunate retirement in the Belgian and Japanese grands prix which was caused by other drivers.
Nevertheless, he is not feeling upset and is positively looking forward to fight back in the remaining two races of the ongoing season.
The Scarlet team had a very struggling pre-season testing programme this year and their technical director, Pat Fry even ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the first race and expected to face difficulties in the opening few grands prix.
Nonetheless, their star driver efficiently reduced the damage for his team. Moreover, they successfully made some essential developments in their car during the Mugello test.
However, they have not been as strong as their major competitor, Red Bull who even though struggled during the start of the season because of the changes in rules and regulations by FIA, but later made some substantial advancement in their car and became
almost unbeatable.
After securing second podium finish in the Abu Dhabi GP, Alonso said that they still need to take more out of their updates so as to be able to compete with their rivals in the next two races.
Meanwhile, the team principal, Stefano Domenicali insisted that they are earnestly looking forward to make the necessary analysis of their update package at Maranello in order to take the most out of it in the remainder of the season.
In addition, Domenicali said that they are trying their best to provide their driver with the most reliable and competent car in the next two races, to help him in claiming the championship title.
On the other hand, the president of the Italian team, Luca di Montezemolo said that they need to take the best out of them at their factory to come up stronger in the final two races.
“The weekend was hard to read,” he told the official Ferrari website. “That began with Saturday evening when I watched a situation that was not entirely clear. As far as Ferrari is concerned I want to understand why the new parts that we brought to the track
only partially improved the performance of the F2012, which wasn't enough to allow Alonso to fight for the very front positions on the grid - despite the contrasting expectations of our engineers.”
“But it's clear that we have to do more for the coming races,” he added.
At present, the Maranello based squad is standing at second place in the constructors’ championship. Besides, they are ahead of McLaren and are behind the defending champions.
It will be thrilling to see how they perform in the last two races of the current season.
