Ferrari must make improvements for podium fight at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team need to make improvements in order to fight for the podium finish at Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012.
The Scarlet team’s driver, Fernando Alonso is leading the drivers’ championship with 55 points after taking an incredible victory in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia and securing fifth place finish in the season opener at Albert
Park in Melbourne.
Moreover, the set of impressive performances of the Spaniard have earned the Italian team third place in the constructors’ championship with 35 points.
However, Alonso said that they still have plenty of work to do in order to enhance their pace in the normal race conditions. Besides, he expects that they may face problems to make their way through into the third session of the qualifying at Shanghai circuit
on Saturday.
“Nothing has changed since Malaysia and so I expect a tough weekend,” Alonso said. “There will be no big surprises, as although the car has some small improvements, there is nothing big coming for this race. I expect this is the same situation with the other
teams, which is why I feel the general picture will be the same as at the last two races. This means we will struggle to get through into Q3 on Saturday and then on Sunday, we will be hoping to get a good start and then do a good job of tyre management.”
On the other hand, Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa has quite a disappointing start of the season as he could not score even a single point in the opening two races.
In addition, there have been many discussions regarding Massa’s replacement with Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari who secured an impressive second place finish at Sepang.
Nonetheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they are ready to provide everything to the Brazilian driver which he will need to improve his performance.
Furthermore, Massa said that he hopes for a normal race in China while he said that he has tried his best to make the necessary preparations for the next race at the team’s factory in Maranello. He also said he has worked with the team engineers so as to
identify the mistakes happened in the last two races and to rectify them to perform well in the races ahead.
It will be important to mention that Hirohide Hamashima, the director of Ferrari tyre development has expressed that they are less competent in the area of tyre usage during the race for which they need to make the significant arrangements for the upcoming
races.
Even though, Ferrari need developments in certain areas, nevertheless, the hopes of the legendary Italian team are high for the race in China.
