Ferrari not giving Felipe Massa a just set off – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has not been given a just set-off in this season so far as the team is testing the new components on his car, claimed by a Brazilian journalist in the defence of his compatriot after 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International
Circuit on Sunday.
“Ferrari is making a huge mistake,” wrote Livio Oricchio in his O Estado de S. Paulo blog.
Massa had not been able to show any reliable performance in the first two races of the season. Moreover, he has been facing huge criticism while there are many speculations concerning his replacement with Sergio Perez of Sauber who has already expressed
the commitment to his team, after the incredible second place finish at second GP.
Furthermore, it had been reported by the Italian press that the Scarlet team had done every single thing it could, in order to help Massa however, it proved out to be pointless and in order to save his career he should be in a new team in which he must have
a weaker driver as his teammate.
Oricchio argued that the Red team was not giving Massa a fair chance.
“At times, Massa has become a test driver — with (private) testing forbidden, he is the one experimenting with new components at the two races so far. And in some of this testing there was so little downforce on the car that it explains fully his difficulties.
But they (Ferrari) are not making this clear so it only confirms the already deeply eroded image of Massa becoming almost unsustainable in the face of public opinion,” he said.
Conversely, Massa’s teammate, Fernando Alonso had claimed a great victory in the second race in wet conditions and secured the fifth place finish in the season opener.
However, Alonso himself had insisted that the win in the second race had changed nothing as they still had a long way to go with the purpose of performing well in the forthcoming races.
Nonetheless, after facing immense difficulties in the pre-season this year, the Spaniard’s performances in the first couple of races had given a ray of hope to the Italian marquee for the championship title.
