Ferrari not keen to re-sign Felipe Massa for next season – Formula 1 news
Ferrari have expressed that they are not very keen to re-sign Felipe Massa for the next season after losing Mark Webber who has recently signed a new agreement with Red Bull Racing for 2013.
Webber has been seen as a potential replacement for Massa in the Scarlet team. Moreover, the Australian driver also admitted that he had some conversations to join Ferrari after the expiry of his contract with his current team at the conclusion of this season.
However, he has signed a new deal with Red Bull for the next season after winning the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Meanwhile, the Italian team has said that they are not eager enough to sign a new contract with their driver, Massa for the future.
“In Maranello, no one is in a hurry to make any decisions and that's for sure,” wrote the Horse Whisperer on Ferrari's website. “One absolute certainty of the past few months was washed away, as we now know Webber is staying put. Now the most vociferous
and qualified rumourmongers are taking it for granted that Felipe will be confirmed, these generally being the same voices that, not only had him down as being out of the running for 2013, but would have had us believe he would not even see out the season.”
It will be important to mention that Massa has not been able to secure a podium finish in the last two years and struggled during the start of the season. Nonetheless, he made a strong comeback in the Monaco GP held at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo in
which he secured a convincing 6th place finish after taking a start from 7th grid position.
In addition, he secured an impressive 4th place finish in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit after beginning from 5th grid slot which has been his best performance in the season so far.
Presently, he is standing at 13th place in the drivers’ rankings with 23 points along with the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes. Over and above, it will be quite interesting to see how he shows up in the approaching season.
