Ferrari plan to split car design programmes for next two years – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they have decided to have two different co-ordinators for designing their 2013 and 2014 cars.
Domenicali said that they will split the responsibility of designing their cars for the next two years. Moreover, he said that Simone Resta will work on the design programme of next year’s car while Fabio Montecchi will deal with their 2014’s contender.
Besides, he said that the role of the chief designer will be kept by Nikolas Tombazis.
“We have decided, particularly in light of the unusual demands we will face in 2013, when we will have a completely new project to work on for the future, to have two co-ordinators,” Domenicali said.
“Simone Resta, an engineer who has developed his career in Maranello and is very effective, will work on the 2013 car and Fabio Montecchi will deal with the one for the following year,” he said.
It will be important to note that the Scarlet team struggled in this season because they failed to develop a car which could match the pace of their rival, Red Bull Racing. Resultantly, their driver, Fernando Alonso lost the championship fight by just 3
points to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull despite performing flawlessly throughout the year.
Therefore, the Italian has said that they have developed a different approach towards designing their cars for the next two seasons so as to come up stronger against their competitors.
“We have also adopted a better method of splitting up the work between those who run the wind tunnel and those who should concentrate more on the creative side of the job,” he added.
In addition, he said that they are currently aiming to make the most out of their development plan during the winter testing in order to perform well right from the start of the coming season.
He also said that they are not feeling upset over the result of this season and are positively looking forward to fight back in the next season.
The Italian squad came second in this year’s constructors’ championship and it will be exciting to see how they perform in the next year.
