Ferrari prepared not to repeat mistakes in 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali, has stated that the team is determined to do better and not repeat this year’s mistakes during the next season of Formula 1.
“We are trying to correct the points that were not the best in terms of our car,” Domenicali said. “We need to improve the pace in qualifying, and the situation with DRS is something that should theoretically help. That is why I am confident that we should
be in a different position at the start of the season next year.”
Although the team was struggling against Red Bull Racing towards the end of the season, Domenicali says that they are still happy with their performance.
“Don't forget in the last four races we were the team that scored the most points,” he said. “And in racing we were, in my view, the best in terms of managing pit stops, managing strategy, and being best in reliability.”
The team principal admitted that they definitely did not provide Fernando Alonso with the quickest car unlike his Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel and they also failed to develop it in the second half of the season due to which Vettel was able to successfully
maintain his lead. He said that the team is going to work hard on improving the car; they know where they lacked in performance and have plans to improve in those areas. He added that the slow qualifying pace strongly affected their performance at the end
of the season.
Alonso himself has confessed that they need a faster car for next season in order to win the title. He said that the only reason he was able to fight right to the final race with the current car was luck and good combination. He told that failure in a few
races greatly affected his championship chances.
Vettel took the lead away from Alonso when he was successful at winning four consecutive races but the Ferrari driver kept his winning chances right until the end of the season. The final race in Brazil started with Vettel in a 13-point lead. Vettel won
the championship by three points despite finishing sixth while Alonso secured a podium finish.
