Ferrari preparing for another difficult race after 2012 Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director, Pat Fry says that they are preparing for one more difficult race after the 2012 Australian Grand Prix, this weekend at Malaysia.
However, he considered that the gap in the timings as compared to the teams in front was not that big.
The Scarlet team drivers failed to qualify amongst the top ten grid positions on Saturday. Nonetheless, the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso performed well and finished fifth after starting from the 12th place after following the pair of McLaren and Red Bull Racing.
Fry, with only four days left for the practice at the next GP at Malaysia, expressed that they were ready for another difficult race. Nevertheless, he was positive about the performance of the team in the season ahead.
“We must work very hard, that's for sure. Next week in Malaysia, we will have another difficult race: we must try and adapt as well as possible to the characteristics of the Sepang circuit,” said Fry.
Furthermore, Alonso said that they would be able to bring in the crucial improvements in the car only at Chinese and Bahrain Grand Prix because they were left with very less time for making the significant enhancements for the second race.
Nevertheless, he said that they would try their best to make at least some little improvements in the car’s step before the second race.
Stefano Domenicali, the team principal of Ferrari has said that they knew where the developments were needed in the car and would make all the necessary efforts for them as soon as possible. He also said that they desired for a better car at the season opener.
“We knew that this weekend, the car we had was not the one we wanted going into this season, but on Sunday we also saw a situation that was a bit different to Saturday, especially as far as Fernando was concerned, because, in the first stint, his pace was
not that far off that of the leaders,” he said.
Besides, Domenicali admired the performance of Alonso while he said that Felipe Massa unfortunately struggled because of the poor balancing of the car.
