Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo expresses his concern over the championship – Formula 1
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has said that he still remains concerned about the Championship situation despite Fernando Alonso leading the season by a good lead over other drivers.
Montezemolo had earlier showed his concerns when Alonso won his second win of the season at Valencia. The team’s president said that even though Ferrari was able to win the GP at Valencia he was worried that the opposition’s pace puts them ahead of the Ferrari
and they might struggle to bid for the titles.
Now Alonso has secured his third win of the season at Germany and yet Montezemolo has said that he is still concerned about the chances of the team looking at the competition.
“I am concerned, more so than the day after Valencia,” said Montezemolo. “I see very strong opponents: McLaren has made great progress, Red Bull is very strong, Sauber had a race pace that was a match for ours and Lotus is very strong at times.”
“Therefore, we have to be very careful: after we had a difficult start to the season, maybe our rivals did not expect to see Ferrari capable of fighting back this strongly, but now they will redouble their efforts to beat us. Therefore, we must stay very
focused and continue our efforts to improve continuously,” he added.
Montezemolo did praise the team and said that it has done extremely well after the initial season performance when the car was very complex and the team looked in disarray. He said that the whole team has done a good job team principal Stefano Domenicali
has also done very well.
He thanked Domenicali for his work, he mentioned that when Domenicali was made the principal of the team a person who had been grown from within the company, there were a few who opposed the idea but today it is very pleasing to see that he is a true leader
of the team and who worth of the name Ferrari.
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as the season progresses. Red Bull is placed at the top of the Constructors’ at the moment but Ferrari is gaining quickly, yet the Scarlet team will need both Alonso and Felipe Massa to fire if they want to
contend for the constructors’ title.
