Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo still wants more rule changes in Formula 1
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has recently stated that he still wants the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to think about reintroducing third cars and more in-season testing to Formula 1.
Formula 1 cars nowadays are getting more reliant on aerodynamics which should also change, Montezemolo suggested.
“I still believe it is a good idea, as it was in the past and would be today, if the big teams could give a car to the smaller teams. It would certainly produce more competition and would provide an opportunity to run young drivers as well as representing
a clear cost saving,” he said.
Other than that, he added that teams should be allowed to perform some limited tests in order to improve their respective cars in the middle of the season as well.
“At the mid-point of the last decade, there was definitely too much testing, but now we have gone in the completely opposite direction,” said the president of Ferrari.
The main reason why Luca wants the reintroduction of a third car is that he wants to see more competition which the sport is lacking at the moment. He believes that it is mainly because of the fact that there are many small teams and their spots on the grid
can be compensated by the bigger teams if they can run a third car.
Team Lotus, Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team became a part of the sport in 2010 and since then, neither of them has been able to secure a single point as a result of which their credibility is dropping after each race.
They are improving however but still they are way behind the expectations of the officials and fans of the sport.
One has to admit though that these sorts of teams are always there in the sport and they are the main platform for the upcoming drivers. If the top running teams take over the sport, then younger drivers will not have much of a chance of even making it in
the sport.
