Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali blames tyres for disappointing Belgian GP result – Formula 1
Ferrari’s Stefano Domenicali has blamed tyre issues for Ferrari’s disappointing performance at this past weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix as he claims that the car does not have a good pace on the harder tyres.
“We definitely cannot claim to be happy with this result, but we must evaluate it objectively, without letting emotion get the better of us. We saw our car perform in two different ways, depending on what tyres it was running: very good on the Soft, especially
with Fernando, but definitely lacking with the Medium,” he said.
Domenicali believes that the team could have challenged for the victory at the Spa-Francorchamps if they did not go through these issues but now, it seems that even if they solve this problem, it will not make much difference as they are pretty much out
of the championship run this year.
Fernando Alonso is now over a hundred points short of the championship leader Sebastian Vettel with just 7 races remaining and now, his chances of winning the title are almost none.
However, the team principal claims that the Spaniard performed really well and he cannot be blamed for this disappointing result at all.
“This explains how Fernando, who delivered an extraordinary performance, taking the lead and fighting for the win in the first stint, then gradually saw what would have been a very well deserved podium place slip from his grasp,” said Domenicali.
Either way, he added that the team is aware of its problems and issues and they are going to try even harder to get over them at the earliest before the upcoming races.
Other than that, he claims that Felipe Massa gave a very strong performance as well as he started off very aggressively and handled the medium compound tyres in a much better way.
He finished in 8th place though and now it seems that besides improving their car, Ferrari might have to seriously think about enabling both of their drivers to perform at their best in order to achieve a good constructors’
result which is something they have been lacking since 2009.
