Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali praises Fernando Alonso for his pole finish – Formula 1 news
Ferrari Principal Stefano Domenicali praised Fernando Alonso for the Hockenheim qualifying result and said that he has once again demonstrated who talented he is.
The Spaniard was able to get a pole which puts him in a strong position to bid for his third win of the season. Alonso is leading the Drivers’ Championship and will be looking to increase his lead over other drivers.
Domenicali said that like in Silverstone the rain has played its par in the qualifying session and it was not an easy task to manage the changing track conditions. While Domenicali was in praise for the Spaniard he said that he and the team felt really bad
for Felipe Massa who was not able to get the grip on his tyres to get the best time. He reckoned that had he been able to get the grip he would have definitely been competitive in Q3 as was the case at Silverstone during the British GP.
“It's difficult to make any predictions regarding tomorrow, because there's a good deal of uncertainty relating to the behaviour of the tyres over a long run. We will try to make the most of our potential, aware that our opponents are very strong. Reliability
as always is the priority, which is something we never forget,” Domenicali added.
Technical Director Pat Fry also praised Alonso for his fantastic qualifying and said that the Spaniard was able to get the most out of the car maybe even more. He also said that Felipe could have been doing better and fighting for the top places had he been
able to manage to get the most out of the Intermediate tyres on this first lap.
He also praised all the mechanics of the team who he said did a great job after FP3 of preparing the cars especially Massa’s.
He said, “Felipe’s car picked up a bit of damage in an off-track excursion. Now we must concentrate on preparing for a race that will be long and packed with unknowns, starting with tyre performance over a long run. How many pit stops? Ah, good question…I'd
say between one and four!”
