Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali says they are getting ready for 2012 Formula 1 season
The team principal of Ferrari Stefano Domenicali has said that the team is now getting ready for the 2012 Formula 1 season keeping in mind that they have not given up on their 2011 run yet.
The team secured its first victory of the season at the 2011 British Grand Prix where Fernando Alonso won quite comfortably and since then, he has been looking very competitive as he has secured podium positions at each race after that.
“Our target at the moment is really to stop in September and move to the new project. And OK, if you have to do some fine-tuning you can do it, but otherwise you will lose a lot of time on development of the new car. The more time we can spend on the wind
tunnel the better. Because for sure what I really want to avoid is another difficult winter like the last two years,” said Domenicali.
The team was unable to compete actively against the championship leaders during the first half of the season though as Alonso or even Felipe Massa were unable to secure a single victory or pole position which proves that they lacked pace.
McLaren on the other hand secured 2 race victories in the first half and they have scored 2 consecutive race wins as well since the past two events.
“Last year for instance we had a fantastic second half of the season - incredible - and could have won the world championship. But this year we did not start so well,” he added.
The main reason why Alonso has not been able to cope up with Sebastian Vettel in the drivers’ championship is inconsistency and unreliability since Ferrari were quite unpredictable at each event. The team is hoping for better results at the remaining 8 races
of the season.
In order to make the 2012 Formula 1 season more reliable, the team has revealed that they have already started working on their new car and this time, they want a championship-winning car.
