Ferrari reveals its 2011 Formula 1 car F150
Ferrari finally revealed its new car exactly as planned on the 28th of January and became the first Formula 1 team to reveal its 2011 Formula 1 car.
The team decided to name its new car as “F150” as a result of their 150th anniversary. It was revealed in Italy in Maranello.
The car will be in action later on today (28th January) on the team’s private test track for promotional filming. The team is quite confident about its new car and they believe that the F150 will enable both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to
perform at their best as a result of which, the team hopes to win both titles this year.
The F150 does not look very different than their 2010 chassis but it clearly has a wider mid-section in order to accommodate its KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) unit.
According to the team’s technical director, Aldo Costa, the team had to use a completely new approach since double diffusers will not be allowed in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Due to the new rules the car should be a proper cut compared to the previous one, with new concepts and lines of development. As far as the looks are concerned the rules keep them quite unaltered”, he said.
Since the team had to start from scratch and make something, which is capable of winning the titles next season, the team decided to use both KERS and movable rear wings in the most efficient way in order to squeeze out every possible thing from the car.
“Starting from scratch with the car's rear, because the double diffuser and the F-duct are gone and there have been some clarifications regarding the car's underbody, these were the main challenges and why we had to start from scratch rethinking the whole
project”, Costa added.
Aldo revealed that the team hopes to prepare the car completely and ensure that they come up with the best possible package before the 2011 Formula 1 season begins in Bahrain on the 13th of March.
Ferrari’s team Principal, Stefano Domenicali, is pretty excited as well and he stated that the team’s goal for 2011 is quite clear.
“Our goal is to win the championships, we know that it's not easy but that is what we are trying to achieve. I think that there are many very, very good teams, so I would not underestimate any of them”, he said.
He believes that new teams will also emerge in 2011 and it is definitely going to be interesting to see how the new Ferrari performs at the first pre-season test session in Valencia, which is expected to take place on the 28th of January.
