Ferrari satisfied with the aerodynamics of their 2011 Formula 1 car
It was recently revealed that Team Ferrari will reveal its 2011 Formula 1 car a day before the pre-season test sessions expected to begin from the 1st of February. Since the teams are allowed to use KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and adjustable
rear wings, the fans are anxiously waiting to see the cars produced by the Formula 1 teams for 2011 in order to get an idea of what to expect from the teams in terms of technology.
Ferrari was one of the best teams of the 2010 Formula 1 season as they finished in 3rd place in the constructors’ standings behind McLaren Mercedes and winners, Red Bull. However, most of the people blame Felipe Massa for this result as they believe
that Fernando Alonso gave an outstanding performance in the very same car while Felipe was unable to perform up to the mark.
Fernando Alonso finished in 2nd place just 4 points behind the 2010 Formula 1 drivers’ champion Sebastian Vettel in the drivers’ standings. On the other hand, Felipe Massa finished in 6th place more than 100 points behind his teammate.
Nevertheless, the team recently revealed that they have made some major changes in the aerodynamics department and they have also upgraded their car’s wind tunnel in order to close the gap to Red Bull in terms of pace.
Red Bull was clearly the best team of the 2010 Formula 1 season and Ferrari admits it. Ferrari’s chief designer Nikolas Tombazis is determined to catch up with the defending champions in 2011 and hopefully, snatch the titles away from them by the end of
2011.
“Mainly in the area of aerodynamics our car was not as good as the Red Bull. That's why we have restructured the aerodynamics department, upgraded our wind tunnel and launched an ambitious development programme. And of course we are looking to have new and
innovative components,” Tombazis told the media.
It would be interesting to see these changes at the pre-season test session in Valencia on the 1st of February. Fernando Alonso hopes to throw everything including the kitchen sink to ensure that his team and himself secure the titles in 2011.
“We are expecting a fairly big step up for the first race. The configuration has a lot of development potential,” revealed Tombazis.
