Ferrari say Felipe Massa’s crash in Monaco happened due to suspension failure – Formula 1 News
Ferrari have confirmed on their official website that their driver, Felipe Massa’s crash in the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix happened due to suspension failure.
Massa had the same crash at Circuit de Monaco on the race day which he faced during the third practice session. The incident happened during FP3 was considered as a driver error. However, Ferrari technical director,
Pat Fry was quick to clarify that the second incident was caused because of an issue in the car.
After taking the car to Maranello, the Scarlet team has confirmed that the Brazilian driver collided because his car’s front left suspension failed to work.
“The findings validated the first impressions of the engineers, confirming that the accident was caused by an element of the front left suspension breaking. With all required inspections completed to analyse
what happened at the Monegasque circuit, the Car Assembly department can now start work in preparing the car for the Canadian GP,” the team said on their website.
Meanwhile, the team principal of the Italian squad, Stefano Domenicali has said that he is pleased to hear the news that the 32-year-old is fine after such heavy crashes.
“The best news to come out of the Monaco weekend is that Felipe is fine,” Domenicali said. “Two big accidents, just over twenty fours apart and all he has to show for it is a bit of muscle pain. Fortunately there
were no other injuries.”
Currently, Massa is standing at seventh position in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and behind his major opponent, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
As compared to his start in 2012, he has performed convincingly well in this season so far and has secured some competitive results for his team. Moreover, he impressed everyone with his performance in the Spanish
GP in which he secured an incredible third podium finish after taking a start from 9th grid slot.
It will be thrilling to see how he performs in the Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on June 9, 2013.
