Ferrari set to introduce upgrades for Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1 update
The Formula 1 Ferrari team is set to introduce upgrades, which include a new front, modified brake ducts and adjustable wings, in the up-coming race weekend in Turkey, on May 8.
The purpose to introduce these upgrades in the new 150 Italia car is to enable the team to put in a good performance at the Istanbul Park Circuit. Despite the issues in their car at the start of the season, Ferrari still wants to move towards a 2011 season
triumph.
Ferrari’s chief designer, Nikolas Tombazis has said that new front, along with modifications in the car’s brakes and rear wing will make its’ debut in the upcoming race weekend. Tombazis is not expecting much breakthrough with these new parts. He added that
these upgrades will push the team back on their right direction, as new innovations always bring some improvements in every race.
However, the team is aware that these changes will have to be ground-breaking, if the team is to close the gap between Ferrari and their current competitor.
Ferrari had a wind tunnel issue in the start of the season and the team was unable to put their best run on the grid. Tombazis discussed this issue and said, "That's just one half of the problem: even if we didn't have problems with the tunnel, we wouldn't
have won the first three races. Having said that, the aerodynamics of a modern F1 car is made up of a series of air flows that interact with the car.”
He then compared this season’s races with the 2010 season. The chief designer said that they have to become less conservative during their races and more aggressive with their car’s development. He further added that the team has to bring forward more courageous
plans for the remaining races of the season, if they are still interested to get this year’s championship.
Tombazis said that the car has not shown its’ true picture in the running since the winter testing and added, "The FIA not only sets several rigidity limits, but it can also tighten the rules all of a sudden if it notices that there is flexibility by design.
I'm not saying that Red Bull has cheated, we have been too prudent.”
The Greek national went on to mention, "I believe however that the FIA could have made these limits more severe. Since it is not doing that, it's up to us to jump on that bandwagon."
Ferrari still has the potential to compete with the current challengers of the season. The team is looking forward to its’ podium place in the up-coming race to be held in Turkey, on May 8, at the Istanbul Park Circuit.
