Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali expresses disappointment after the Canadian GP – Formula 1
Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali feels that the team was not able to achieve what it could at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Domenicali said that the feeling is of disappointment and he is not going to deny the fact that the team could have scored more points and fared better than they did.
“There's a certain feeling of disappointment this afternoon and there's no point denying it. It's the first weekend in which we have not got the most out of what we had, but it's also down to the fact that the level of expectation was higher thanks to the
progress we have made. Let's not forget that yesterday we were fighting for pole and today, we were in the battle for the win right to the end,” he said.
Ferrari went with a one stop strategy for Fernando Alonso which allowed the Spaniard to take the lead from Sebastian Vettel earlier in the race but the same strategy let the driver down in the end to the race as the Alonso found himself with worn out tyres
and was not able to defend his position from drivers passing him.
Lewis Hamilton took lead from Alonso first and then Romain Grosjean who drove impressively in the race overtook him followed by Sergio Perez in the Sauber and finally Vettel to leave Alonso on a fifth place finish.
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry said that to finish a race struggling with tyres is always difficult. The engineers will have to look into the matter calmly and find a solution to the excessive compound degradation. He added that Lewis Hamilton was clearly
quicker than the Ferrari car but Alonso still managed to pass him and that was all down to the strategy the team applied.
The team decided to go for the single stop strategy and tried to eke out a podium finish but it did not work out the way it was planned. He admitted that Alonso should have pitted when Vettel did that would have allowed him to at least shadow the German
who is now only 2 points behind Alonso in the drivers’ standings.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrari progress ahead in the season.
