Ferrari technical director Aldo Costa quits team after poor 2011 start – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Aldo Costa has resigned from the Maranello-based team after they struggled to progress in the first half of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Costa was responsible for the 2011 Ferrari car design and resigned from his position back in May 2011. However, he worked with the team for few more months so the team could settle down.
Pat Fry has taken over the role of the new technical director of the Ferrari team which is at the verge of losing the 2011 Formula 1 championship to Red Bull team once more.
Although back in May, Ferrari stated that Costa will be with the team and will be assigned a new department within the company. However, Ferrari have now confirmed that Costa will be on leave until the end of 2011.
Ferrari team started the 2011 season with a conventional design and development to their car which did not pay off as for the first two races of the season they were slower than Renault.
Ferrari struggled in the first few races while Red Bull were right on the mark and opened up a healthy lead in the points table after which Ferrari reacted to the situation and decided to bring some upgrades in the car.
Although Ferrari’s speed improved in the latter part of the season, still the Scarlet team was unable to keep the Red Bull team in check.
Recently the Scarlet car of Fernando Alonso won the Silverstone race and also showed some unmatchable pace on the grid. Alonso was able to capitalise on the Red Bull pit crew error and then was able to open up the gap of more than 25 seconds from Sebastian
Vettel after which the German himself stated that the Scarlet car was unbeatable.
Ferrari is still third on the constructors’ table behind Red Bull and McLaren but Alonso is in a challenging position in the drivers’ championship table.
Let’s see how the upcoming German Grand Prix fares for all of the drivers on the grid this weekend.
