Ferrari technical director Pat Fry admits to F2012 woes – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry admits he is still trying to comprehend some of the aspects of the F2012 which are hindering its performance and reliability.
Ever since Ferrari have unveiled their new car, the team has faced technical difficulties. Felipe Massa drove the car for the first time during the first pre-season test at Jerez. Massa instantly let the management know that the car has not behaved the way
it is supposed to.
Fernando Alonso drove the car on the second day and though he did not have as much trouble as Massa did but it was evident that Ferrari had to do something about the car.
Fry after the first test said that Ferrari are looking into the technical difficulties of the car and hope to find a resolution soon. Ferrari are well into the third and final pre-season test and Fry is still struggling to find the reasons behind the car’s
dismal performance.
Still Fry believes that Ferrari is not doing as bad as it seems and the team is working rigorously to fix the issues.
“You're always going to be happier when you're sat there half a second a lap quicker than anyone knowing that you've still got 60 kilos of fuel in the car,” Fry added.
“I think we've got a lot of work to do and we just need to keep on [pushing]. New bits are coming through and we need to first sort out exactly what we've got and understand how to deal with the car balance and then it's a case of getting the last few developments
onto the car. There's another four reasonable development items coming through before Sunday,” he said.
The team went with a not-so-pleasing design of the car in order to get the most out of the car. Alonso said earlier that the team has looked for better pace other than anything else in the car so that it matches its competitors in that department.
So far Ferrari have not been able to show off that pace so aggressively targeted by the team. Ferrari will need to find a solution to their car’s woes as soon as possible as the season is approaching fast and McLaren, Red Bull, Lotus, Mercedes and even Force
India look settled and well prepared for 2012.
The season will begin on March 18, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix as the opening race.
