Ferrari technical director Pat Fry says team expecting improvement at upcoming races – Formula 1
According to the technical director of Ferrari Pat Fry, the team is now hoping to improve its performance even more at the upcoming two races that are expected to take place in Germany and Hungary.
Fernando Alonso recently secured the first victory for the team at the British Grand Prix where he finished around 16 seconds ahead of the two Red Bull Racing team drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Since then, the team has been hoping for a good end to the 2011 Formula 1 season which means that they are hoping for more victories at the upcoming races. As a result, the gap between Alonso and Vettel would decrease in the drivers’ standings.
“There has been a lot of hard work going on for the last three or four months trying to close the gap and it's good to see that work pay off. It shows that we understand the problems and we are going in the right direction,” he told the media.
He added that the team has not given up on its 2011 Formula 1 car and they are still hoping for the best possible results at the upcoming races which will determine the team’s decision regarding its ‘focus shift’ a couple of weeks later.
“We will continue to develop the car as quickly as we can and each step we make improves our understanding and that will carry on to next year's car as well. There are quite a few more updates for the Nurburgring and one more update for Hungary,” said Fry.
Alonso is currently 92 points adrift of the current championship leader Sebastian Vettel and according to the statistics, it seems that the Spaniard’s chances of winning the championship this year are quite bleak.
In order to win the 2011 championship, Alonso would have to win most of the remaining races of the season and also expect Sebastian to retire out of at least 2 of them as well.
The Scarlet team can definitely secure race wins according to its pace but aiming for the championship this year is a long shot for them.
