Ferrari technical director Pat Fry says team must keep pushing 2011 car in ongoing season – F1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry has said that his team should keep on pushing the 2011 car in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
Fry stated although the 2011 championship is out of the hands of the Ferrari team, there is something to learn from this season which can be used in the 2012 season since not a lot of regulations are going to change.
Fry added that in the winter of 2010, Ferrari did not put enough creativity in the car which played against the team in the opening eight races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Fry also stated that the only thing Ferrari need to drop from the 2011 season is the Blown Diffuser and the exhaust technology.
Fry stated, “We're learning different techniques. The only thing that won't carry over is anything we learn from the exhaust system and blowing the floor. We will develop things on this car all the way through to the end of the year, because it's improving
our understanding for next year.”
Fry added that all the major teams carry on the development processes all the way through the season as some of these developments are for the races and some are for the next season.
“If you look at the rate at which all the teams develop through the year – Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes – their actual development rate though the season is very, very similar. Obviously, you bring different packages to different races, but if you average
it out, we all develop at the same sort of performance rate,” stated Fry.
Talking about the Red Bull team and their development pace in the 2011 season, Fry commented that the Milton Keynes-based team did a remarkable job in the winter testing sessions in 2010 which is clearly paying off now.
Nevertheless, the Blown Diffuser clampdown is going to go ahead from the Silverstone Grand Prix and Ferrari will have their best opportunity to at least close down the gap to the Red Bull team.
