Ferrari technical director Pat Fry says they need to keep on making improvements – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry has said that they need to keep on making improvements in F2012 so as to make their position stronger in 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Even though, the Scarlet team struggled throughout the pre-season testing programme this year and expressed that they would face difficulties in the first few races. However, their driver, Fernando Alonso has performed incredibly well in the season so far
as he is currently standing at the top of drivers’ rankings with 61 points along with the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Although, Fry admired the efforts of the team and the Spaniard on delivering some impressive performances in the first five races but he believes that they still need to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations for the approaching
races.
“It's fortunate that we should be in the position we are now after where we were in winter testing,” he said. “I think that's a lot of hard work from everyone that's been digging us out of that. I think everyone, drivers included. It's brought the best out
of them. Fernando has done some fantastic races, but there is still an element of luck why we are here rather than being here by design. We've just got to keep on improving.”
The Italian team is presently at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 63 points. Moreover, they are 20 points ahead of Mercedes AMG and 21 points behind Lotus.
In addition, Fry said that they have been able to learn a lot from the mistakes which they committed during the pre-season while he said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the upcoming races.
Besides, he said that they have been planning to launch some major updates in the car in order to enhance its pace. However, he said that they cannot test the upgrades at this point in time as they intend to keep the same setup of the car for the drivers
for the race ahead.
Nonetheless he said, “We'll try and answer the next set of questions when we get to Canada.”
