Ferrari technical director Pat Fry thinks Ferrari is improving going forward – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry believes the qualifier results are good for the team.
Fry added even though the car’s characteristics are do no fully suit the kind of track offered at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, yet the result has been positive as Alonso finished third and more importantly the struggling Felipe Massa finished sixth.
The turns of events for Ferrari have been remarkable as the team had struggled earlier in the season and led Fry to say that the team might struggle to get podiums. Although Alonso gave a Grand Prix win earlier in the season winning the Malaysian Grand Prix
was a major help for the team to be in a position where they are able to challenge for the drivers’ title.
Such has been the competitiveness in the season that the Constructors’ Championship title is achievable as well. There have been six races completed in the season so far and there have been six different winners. That is a record in itself but it also shows
the level of unpredictability in the season.
Massa also said that he is happy with the result and is also quite satisfied with the way the car is behaving with the new updates introduced.
Fry added that the team has been working hard and now the progress is tangible while admitted that Ferrari is still not on top and needs to close that gap. There are more updates coming as the season progresses so far they have lived up to their expectations
and the hope for the future is to have the same kind of response.
Talking about the race ahead he said, “Tomorrow's race will be very unpredictable, as indeed has been the case so far in this championship. In Montreal, the Safety Car usually plays its part and we must be ready to tackle every eventuality. There is the
unknown factor relating to tyres: today we have seen how the situation changes depending on the temperature, which was decidedly higher than yesterday. It will have a major influence on strategy also because, unlike Monaco, you certainly can't expect to keep
faster cars behind you in the closing stages of the race.”
