Ferrari technical head Pat Fry believes Red Bull are ahead of F1 field – Formula 1 news
Pat Fry, technical director of Ferrari believes that Red Bull Racing are undoubtedly ahead of the contenders for the 2012 Formula 1 season setting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this weekend.
There had been many discussions concerning the defending champions were closely in-line with the McLaren however, Fry believed that they were surely in front of the remaining teams at present.
“I think Red Bull are ahead of the rest at the moment. Maybe half a second,” said Fry.
Furthermore, he said that they were estimating about the levels of the fuel used during the pre-season tests but he thought that Red Bull were around five to seven tenths to the lead of others.
“We’re guessing about fuel levels used in testing but I would say Red Bull are between five and seven tenths ahead of everyone else,” said Fry.
It would be important to mention here that Fry had ruled out the possibility of the Red team for a podium finish at the first GP after the last pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Moreover, the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso also said that
they were facing difficulties in creating a firm understanding regarding the new car F2012.
Nevertheless, Alonso had recently expressed that he was confident and relaxed for the season opener despite the difficulties with the new car. Furthermore, his teammate, Felipe Massa also said that he was positive for the first race and would try to perform
at his best while he was not concerned with the statements regarding the issues of the new car but he didn’t disagree with the stance of the technical director of his team, Fry.
“At the moment we don’t know who is fast and who is not,” insisted Alonso, according to Marca. “Don’t pay much attention to what is said. We are not even going to know anything until Malaysia — a normal circuit.”
Pedro de la Rosa of HRT made a bold prediction about the defending champion, Vettel. He also said that Ferrari would have got enough time after the last test to improve its performance for the season ahead.
“Maybe Vettel will win again, but if he does, he will have more sweat on his shirt,” said de la Rosa.
