Ferrari technical restructure: Aldo Costa surrenders his post as three personnel join in – Formula 1
Formula 1 Ferrari team has made some technical changes in their outfit after the poor start to the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Technical director Aldo Costa has relinquished his post to take on some other role in the team.
A statement from the Italian team read, “Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro announces that, as from today, Aldo Costa relinquishes his current position as technical director to take on new responsibilities within the company.”
It further added, “At the same time, the technical activity has been restructured in three areas: director for the chassis side is Pat Fry, production is in the hands of Corrado Lanzone, while engine and electronics continues with Luca Marmorini. All three
report directly to the team principal, Stefano Domenicali.”
Ferrari’s poor performance in the 2011 season already saw a huge concern for the team when Stefano Domenicali, Aldo Costa and Pat Fry flew back to Italy instead of the Malaysian Grand Prix to settle Ferrari’s performance issues.
After that conference in Italy, Ferrari managed a third place podium in the Turkish Grand Prix which came though Fernando Alonso.
Apart from that performance of Alonso, Ferrari’s 2011 car, Ferrari150 Italia has failed to show speeds to match Red Bull or McLaren.
Before the Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari brought an innovative rear wing design. The new wing design would have added some useful tenths of seconds in Ferrari’s qualifiers performance. However, before the scarlet car could use it, the International Automobile
Federation (FIA) banned it.
So far, the Ferrari team is 110 points behind the roaring Red Bull team which is a big setback right at the start of the season. Ferrari will have to work really hard in the upcoming races if they are to compete for the championship because the McLaren-Mercedes
team sit in front of them.
The Ferrari team will step into the Monaco Grand Prix with a new management and will be looking to open their account by winning a race.
