Ferrari to announce Felipe Massa’s future soon – Formula 1 news
Stefano Domenicali, the team principal for Ferrari, says that their decision regarding Felipe Massa’s future with the team will be revealed soon.
Massa’s contract with the team has been under scrutiny for almost the entire season. The player had not been performing well and struggling to keep up with the standards set by his teammate Fernando Alonso. He also has been unable to attain any podium finish
for nearly two years, though in the recent Japan and Korean Grands Prix, Massa has been able to break his dry spell. He was at second place in Japan and finished fourth in Korea. This has led to him scoring 56 points that is one more point than Alonso.
Domenicali has expressed his happiness with the player’s recent performance and insisted that that the decision for his future will be out soon.
“I'm very happy because he did an excellent race and an excellent qualifying,” Domenicali said. “But I have to say that he's doing a really great job for a couple of races so this is really very promising for the end of the season. And then if I want to
anticipate the next question that I'm sure someone would like to ask, very soon you will know what our position will be in that respect.”
When Domenicali was inquired about what might have brought these changes in Massa, he told that the player was now showing a better understanding of the car and tyres. He admitted that Massa is a very talented driver and if that had not been the case, Ferrari
might already have given a different decision.
“I feel that now Felipe has his understanding of the tyres and the car under control he is performing at the levels that he should,” he said.
During Massa’s ill performance, Sergio Perez of Sauber and Nico Hulkenberg of Force India had been eyeing his spot in Ferrari but with the recent improvement, it is being reported that Massa will be given another year’s contract. The deal has not been confirmed
yet but Massa has expressed to have no doubts.
Sebastian Vettel has also been rumoured to become a part of Ferrari by the year 2014.
