Ferrari to challenge the 2012 Formula 1 championship result – Formula 1 news
The decision of the 2012 F1 title in favour of Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has become uncertain as there have been reports about Ferrari preparing to challenge the result of season ending Brazilian Grand Prix.
The uncertainty has arisen due to a video that has Vettel captured as he overtakes Toro Rosso’s Jean Eric Vergne under the yellow flags which is prohibited by the rules and regulations set by the F1 governing body FIA.
According to a race steward, Gary Connolly, Vettel did not overtake the Toro Rosso driver under the yellow flags but rather under the red and yellow flags which are used to warn the drivers against certain weather and track conditions. It is not against
the FIA laws to overtake under the red and yellow flags. On the other hand, the yellow flags are used when there is debris on the track being cleaned or a certain racing incident has taken place due to which the drivers are required to limit their speed and
not overtake.
It is being said that the flags might just seem to be yellow; the red part being unable to be seen. The flags were being used due to the inconsistent weather conditions of Brazil and it had been raining over the Interlagos circuit this weekend making the
conditions real tricky for the drivers.
While it is being reported that Fernando Alonso has pressed his team to appeal against the decision, the driver himself had stated earlier that his winning chances were hindered due to bad races in Spa and Suzuka.
Vettel had also complained earlier about the dirty tricks played by his rivals but confessed that the team was more focused on their own performance.
If the Red Bull driver is caught on his mistake then he will be handed a twenty second penalty that will bring him from sixth to eighth position and Alonso will win the title by one point. According to the rules of the FIA, they have the time until the thirtieth
of November to take any action on this agenda. Their failure to do so will result in Vettel maintaining his third consecutive championship.
