Ferrari to shift focus to 2012 if they do not score good results until end of July 2011 – Formula 1
Recent reports have revealed that Ferrari will shift their focus and start working on their 2012 car in case they are unable to score some good results until the end of July 2011.
“We have made quite a lot of progress over the past few months and I believe that was visible in recent races and we hope that trend will continue,” Ferrari's chief designer Nicholas Tombazis confirmed.
The team made a terrible start to its 2011 run as both of its drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were unable to secure a single podium until the 4th race of the season which took place in Turkey.
Fernando Alonso scored the 3rd place there and sort of lifted the team’s hopes for its 2011 run. The car’s performance improved noticeably as well after that as both Alonso and Massa scored some pretty good results during the qualifying sessions.
Nevertheless due to the fact that Sebastian Vettel, the current championship leader has gained a massive lead over the rest of the drivers, it seems that Ferrari might shift their focus to the 2012 season. It is going to be a good decision by the team since
their current car does not stand a chance against Red Bull Racing’s RB7 at least.
However, since the team has been improving, Tombazis added that the next three races are going to be crucial for the team’s 2011 Formula 1 season run.
“How well these next few races go will decide whether or not we feel we are still in with a chance of fighting for the championships this year, even if we are quite a long way behind in the points,” said the team’s chief designer.
At first, it was believed that the team might shift its focus after evaluating its performance until the British Grand Prix where the Blown Diffusers will be banned. It is believed that the performance of some of the teams including Red Bull Racing Team
is going to change noticeably. Let’s see how it transpires.
