Ferrari upgrades will earn us a couple of tenths in terms of pace – Fernando Alonso
Two- time Formula 1 world champion, Fernando Alonso, has recently stated that since his team Ferrari has applied some new upgrades to its car before the Turkish Grand Prix, they are hoping for an improvement of about two tenths of a second in terms of lap
time, which is not going to be enough for the team at the moment.
“We know that the new parts we have here will improve the car compared to China, it should be worth a couple of tenths per lap but it is not a revolutionary change. We will not change the car completely in just one race”, he said.
Ferrari has been well off the pace of Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren. The closest Alonso got to Sebastian Vettel’s pole position taking time is 9 tenths of a second, which was during the qualifying session of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The two tenths Ferrari has gained are not going to be as effective as the team wants them to be but the Spaniard is confident that the new brake ducts and front and rear wings are going to make some difference this weekend.
“Step by step we must close the gap and we are very happy with the work we did over these last three weeks, but we need to wait, probably until qualifying to see how much of the gap we have closed, given that we can expect the other teams to have also made
progress”, said Alonso.
Other than that, he added that if the team succeeds to pull out some time as a result of these upgrades, it would be a great motivational factor for the team and in order to score good results this season, the Spaniard believes that the team will have to
improve its car steadily instead of looking for a quick fix.
At the moment, Ferrari is in 3rd place in the constructors’ standings but that is not good for them, as they claimed before the beginning of the season that this time, they will aim for nothing less than titles and they are not even close at the
moment.
