Ferrari wants a third F1 car
The Americans are head over heels feuding over the Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo who announced his plans to push for the third Ferrari on the grid of Formula 1.
There is a concern to the Americans fans that this could be an attempt to steal away two of the top IndyCar teams to F1 as IndyCar is subsequently struggling to emerge from decades of division.
Actually the Ferrari President stirred up approaching the American racing giants Penske and Ganassi so as to be the possible partners. This encouraged a furious reaction to the American fans to outrage at di Montezemolo’s statement.
FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, F1’s governing body) has also been contacted to expand the Formula One teams from two to three cars. This suggestion was implied by Ferrari that would drastically improve Ferrari’s chance in the World Constructor’s
Championship squeezing several of the smaller teams.
"It would be nice to see a third Ferrari fielded perhaps by a private American team,” as published by Italian magazine of an interview with di Montezemolo. “I'm thinking of a team like Ganassi or Penske. On the question of a third car, we are determined.”
Most of the teams thus, in the Formula One Team Association, rejected this proposal as they probably couldn’t fully fund a third car with a top-rank driver, leaving them with half-rated efforts.
The FIA allowed three new teams, i.e. Lotus, Virgin and HST, for 2010 but none of these were even close to competitive, usually lapping several seconds slower than the other slowest team.
The question is whether any American team would consider to move into Formula One, as this would certainly be more expensive than any of their own series, but Ferrari is determined on their contact to Ganassi or Penske as for its high esteem popularity in
the United States along with the image of Formula One as the most elite auto racing series on the planet.
