Ferrari will choose Sebastian Vettel instead of Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
Luca di Montezemolo, who is the president for Ferrari, has stated that if in the future they require a new driver, they will definitely choose Sebastian Vettel instead of Lewis Hamilton.
“Between all the drivers, Vettel and Hamilton could be perfect for Ferrari in the future, with one difference - Vettel is younger,” Montezemolo said. “First of all, of all the drivers, we have the best - in terms of speed, intelligence in the race, and a
capability to work with the team. But if Alonso decided to go to live in Hawaii with the girlfriend, I have no doubt that for human and professional reasons [I would choose] Vettel. He would be very good for us.”
Montezemolo said that when a team chooses the best driver on the grid then it is their responsibility to provide him with the best possible conditions and environment so that he can perform according to his potential.
He added that he likes Vettel and that he is not over confident. He said that the young driver has the determination to win which their former driver and F1 legend, Michael Schumacher, had told them years back as he knows Vettel since his Karting days. Montezemolo
said that Schumacher was definitely right.
Vettel, who is currently driving for Red Bull Racing and has been the F1 champion for the last three years, has been speculated for some time now about joining the Ferrari team. However, he is in contract with the Austrian team until the end of 2014 F1 season.
It was being said that Vettel might not retain his title this past season given his struggles in the beginning of the season but he made a comeback towards the end beating Alonso by three points.
Meanwhile, Hamilton, who has decided to move to Mercedes AMG, had a season full of up’s and down’s. Even though he displayed good pace throughout the season; securing pole positions several times but the reliability stricken car failed to support him.
Ferrari will be continuing with Alonso and his teammate, Felipe Massa, who they have confirmed for another year after much speculation.
