Ferrari will come up more competitive in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team is expected to come up with increased competitiveness, in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 12, after the upgradation of F2012 during the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit
last week.
The Scarlet team tested some of the major updates in the Mugello test and collected the essential information about their car so as to make the substantial developments for the races ahead.
Moreover, their driver, Fernando Alonso also said that they have planned to try some of the upgrades in the free practice sessions on Friday.
After struggling in the pre-season testing programme, the Italian team expressed that they will face difficulties in the first few races of the season. Nevertheless, they have performed reasonably well during the first four races and are currently standing
on fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 45 points. In addition, it will be interesting to know that they are 12 points behind Lotus and are 8 points ahead of Mercedes.
The Spaniard, Alonso secured an impressive fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from 12thposition in the grid. Subsequently, he took an incredible victory in the second race at Sepang International
Circuit in Malaysia after starting the race from 8thgrid position.
Conversely, in the third and fourth race he could only managed to secure 9th and 7th place finish while he qualified for 9th place in both the races.
On the other hand, his teammate, Felipe Massa has only been able to score 2 points and is at 17th position in the drivers’ ranking. Regardless of the speculations about the replacement of the Brazilian driver, the team has shown support for him. Besides,
he is also focusing to perform well in the approaching races.
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo asserted that they are confident for the Spanish GP despite the struggling start of the season. He also said that they are targeting for improvements in the upcoming races.
“I got a shock from the way we started, as I was not expecting it,” Montezemolo said. “I had in mind a different scenario. There have been four races and we have won one of them. So we are thereabouts and now we have to make a leap forward in terms of quality
to have a more competitive car. I have noticed the engineers seem more confident and now we will see what happens in Spain.”
Over and above, there are sound chances that Ferrari will strike much stronger in the remaining season right from the next race in Barcelona as the double world champion, Alonso said, “We will bring new parts, we will never give up and our aim is to win
the World Championship.”
