Ferrari will decide Felipe Massa’s future today – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has indicated that they are going to decide about their driver, Felipe Massa’s future today.
Massa has faced immense criticism over his poor performance in the first few races and has been surrounded by a lot of rumours that he may be replaced by the Italian team in the next season.
Moreover, there have been many drivers who have been linked with Ferrari which mainly include Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and Sergio Perez of Sauber. However, Webber has renewed his contract with his current team while Perez has signed a new multi-year
contract with McLaren and will replace Lewis Hamilton who has planned to move to Mercedes in the coming season.
It will be important to mention that even though, the Mexican driver has been strongly linked with the Scarlet team but Montezemolo has always said that he is too young for their team and should gain more experience.
Though, the Brazilian driver failed to attain competitive results in the opening few races, nevertheless, he has performed incredibly well in the last few grands prix and it seems that he has made his position stronger in his team for the next year. Meanwhile,
the 65-year-old has said that they are going to hold a meeting with Massa on Tuesday in which they will make the decision about his future in the team.
“I’m happy to see Felipe back at a high level,” Montezemolo told RAI radio. “Tomorrow (Tuesday) I will meet him at Maranello, we will have a chance to talk about his future and then I will take a decision.”
Besides, it is to be noted that he has dismissed all the rumours which have linked Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull to Ferrari.
“I've always said that I don't want two roosters in the hen-house,” he said. “[I would] rather two drivers who race for Ferrari and not for themselves. I don't want problems and rivalries, which we didn't have between [Michael] Schumacher and [Eddie] Irvine,
between Schumacher and [Rubens] Barrichello, between Alonso and Massa or Massa and Schumi or Massa and [Kimi] Raikkonen.”
