Ferrari young driver Jules Bianchi wants to do something significant in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Jules Bianchi believes that he will be on the lookout to play an important role in 2012 to bid for a race seat in 2013.
Bianchi is a test and reserve driver for Ferrari and impressed everyone at the Young Driver Test held in Abu Dhabi during the 2011 season after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Although he did not match up to Romain Grosjean who was 36 points ahead in points, Bianchi
feels he is confident and ready for a race seat.
Felipe Massa’s contract is going to end in 2013 and his 2011 season was horrid. The Brazilian was not able to secure any wins for his team and had several run-ins with McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton. The tension between the two drivers caused both drivers
trouble and Massa already facing a timid season showing grew attention for constantly criticising the Brit and prominently intimidated by him.
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo clearly took notice and was not impressed by Massa, and gave a warning to the Brazilian that if he were to save his place in the team, he needs to produce results in 2012.
Bianchi hence considers himself on the fringes of a race seat. He says that he will try to get a race seat with any team he can get some mileage from while still staying as a Ferrari test and reserve driver, so that he can be better prepared for his race
seat whenever he gets the opportunity to prove.
“I will try to play an important role in Formula One (this year) in order to gather as much information and experience as I can and get a cockpit in 2013,” Bianchi said. “The goal is to find a team that allows me the most mileage and (at the same time) I
can still stay with Ferrari.”
“I feel ready for F1 already in 2012, but I must stay on the ground. It's a little hard, but that's what Formula One is like. I will not give up and will try for a fresh start in 2013,” he added.
