Ferrari’s Felipe Massa expects more overtaking in Valencia via double DRS zones – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa expects more overtaking in the upcoming European Grand Prix of the 2011 season courtesy the twin Drag Reduction System zones.
The Brazilian driver, who only managed a sixth place finish in the Canadian Grand Prix, added that Valencia is not known for its overtaking opportunities but the DRS will help change the history.
Massa also added that Formula 1 racing in the 2011 season has been to the limit where a reliable and fast car is required to compete on the grid.
Massa stated, “However, you have to do everything you can to ensure your car is competitive throughout the whole race, because this is the direction we have seen things go this year, in that if you are not competitive then it is very easy to lose places
to other cars.”
He further added that in the previous Formula 1 seasons, a driver was able to hold onto his position even if his car was slower than the one following.
For the 2011 season, Massa commented, “One of the criticisms of this street circuit was that it turned out to be very difficult to overtake other cars, but this year we have the DRS and, like in Canada, we have two DRS zones where we can operate it.”
Massa will surely look to overtake some cars on the track and some minds off track as well because his place in Ferrari is being talked much now a days.
Massa struggled to even end two of the seven races which contributed to Ferrari’s slump in the 2011 season because they find themselves more than 150 points behind the leading Red Bull team.
In Monaco and Spain, the Brazilian failed to see the chequered flag. Although in Monaco there was nothing Massa could have done after McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton damaged the Scarlet car, yet Massa has not been up to the mark in the 2011 season.
