Ferrari’s Felipe Massa eyes Constructors' Title
Felipe Massa of Ferrari still believes his team can win both of this year's championships, despite trailing Red Bull in the constructors' standings.
Plagued by slow starts and poor finishes during the early part of the 2010 F1 season, Ferrari bounced back with gusto, scoring 166 points over the last six races. At the most recent Grand Prix race, which
took place in Korea last weekend, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel of the favoured Red Bull team both retired, allowing Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to finish first and third. Ferrari’s dramatic reversal of its declining fortunes has given Masa a reason
to smile.
"Ferrari's chances in both championships now look much better than before we tackled these last three Asian races," he said.
With a maximum of 86 points available for the constructor title in the final two races of the season, Ferrari is now 52 points behind Red Bull, whose RB 6 car has been the envy of the 2010 season.
However, Masa insists that despite Red Bull’s impressive design, Ferrari has not remained complacent. Masa praised the efforts of his team’s engineers and mechanics whose innovations have been making
obvious differences on the track.
"Even during the difficult time, we were able to improve the car, working in the right direction and the result is that the F10 [Ferraris' car] got stronger race by race.”
As the Ferrari team grows in competence as well as confidence, Masa is certain his team will put up a stiff fight at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
"Last year it's true, Red Bull was very strong and won the race in Brazil, but in the years before then, Ferrari had been the strongest team, from 2006 to 2008, with our car going very well at Interlagos."
With point-margins narrowing because of recent upsets and with two races to go, this F1 season is certainly picking up speed.
