Ferrari’s Felipe Massa furious with Narain Karthikeyan for blocking his way – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has admitted that he was quite angry with Narain Karthikeyan after spinning into the barriers as Narain did not give way to the Brazilian for overlapping him near the end of the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
“I can't draw much satisfaction from this sixth place, given the potential we had here. My chances of finishing on the podium and also of fighting for the win given how things went, just evaporated when I was passing Karthikeyan,” said Massa.
It was a very unprofessional move by the Indian driver as it is pointless not letting a driver overlap since it does not affect the track position at all. As a result, it is a part of the rules that the driver being overlapped has to give way to the driver
who is overlapping in order to avoid any sort of racing incident.
Nevertheless, Karthikeyan was awarded with a penalty by the stewards for this move since Massa was running for his first podium of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix. It was quite disappointing and frustrating for the Brazilian especially after such a
tiring race for the drivers.
Felipe added that the team scored its best qualifying results this weekend and they were expecting a very good result. However, the conditions did not allow them to do so as the race started behind a safety car.
“We qualified well and we were in the top three up until the red flag. Then what happened happened and it was all over. I am pleased with how the car performed, both on the extreme wets and on the slicks, but with the intermediates, I was struggling a bit,”
said the Brazilian driver.
Massa believes that the upcoming race in Valencia, which is going to be the European Grand Prix, is going to be another interesting race for Ferrari as they are going to try their best to once again finish ahead of the Red Bull Racing team and McLaren. The
Ferrari driver believes that tyres are going to play a major role at the upcoming race which will take place in two weeks’ time.
