Ferrari’s Felipe Massa satisfied with F138 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has claimed that he felt much more comfortable in his new challenger compared to last year. He shared his thoughts after spending some time on the track in Barcelona
on Friday, February 22, 2013.
The Brazilian driver was given an opportunity to test the F138 during the first preseason test in Jerez, but handed over the charge to his team-mate Fernando Alonso, who had his first taste
of the car in Barcelona.
However, Massa was once again given a chance to understand this year’s challenger on the final day of the second test. He was unable to make the most of his day though, as rain had hit the
track. Due to this, he managed to complete only 64 laps and posted a best time of 1m 27.563s, which put him in seventh place overall.
Despite that, the 31-year-old driver was feeling confident and stated, “I feel much more comfortable in the car and with the balance as well. I feel okay and I feel good in the car but I
didn't drive for a long time in the car so it's important we use the next week very well, and the two days I have and the two days Fernando has just to be fully ready for the first race.”
Last year, both the Ferrari drivers struggled with the balance of the car and did not feel much positive about their chances. Despite that, Alonso delivered some consistent results and fought
for the championship until the final race of the season in Brazil.
The Italian team struggled mostly because of problems in their wind tunnel, which they eventually had to shut down. However, they used Toyota’s advanced facility this year in order to eradicate
the problems.
Massa still believes there is work to be done and claimed, “There is a lot to work on, there is a lot to do, and maybe it's a very important moment as well for people working on the aerodynamics,
on the engine, on the chassis to put everything together in a good direction for the first race.”
The veteran driver will be aiming to deliver some strong performances this year otherwise he might end up losing his seat for 2014.
