Ferrari’s Felipe Massa says Red Bull Racing Team’s RB7 is a very fast car in upcoming season
Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, recently stated that it is a matter of ‘fact’ that the new RB7 car, introduced by Red Bull Racing Team, is going to be very quick during the 2011 Formula 1 season. He also claimed that his Ferrari team will also be one of the
top contenders this year.
Massa scored the fastest time of the week during the 3rd pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona a couple of days ago. He stated that he is aware that he is going to have fierce competition from Red Bull and other in the upcoming
season as well. “The Red Bull is definitely very quick and that's a fact. Today [Monday], we did a good lap time and I think we are not off the pace: however, yesterday [Sunday] Rosberg was quick for example and you definitely cannot rule out McLaren and some
other teams,” he said.
He added that he and his teammate, the two times Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso, got the chance to test a genuine race simulator in which they tried different types of Pirelli tyres with different fuel levels. Ferrari seems a little ahead of its
rivals as they are more comfortable in their new Formula 1 car as compared to their rivals.
Apart from that, the main topic of discussion during the sessions was the new tyres which have been introduced by Pirelli for the 2011 Formula 1 season. Massa claims that the teams will apply different strategies in 2011 and as a result, racing would become
more entertaining than it was in 2010. “Degradation is higher and it's definitely not easy to look after the tyres. It's true they give good grip, especially on the softer tyres, while the medium and hard are not so good in this respect, although their degradation
is similar to the others,” said Felipe.
It is going to be interesting to see how the teams use the new tyres and since Pirelli has introduced a variety of compounds for the upcoming season, racing is definitely going to be more unpredictable as compared to the past couple of seasons.
