Ferrari’s Felipe Massa shows concern over Ferrari 150 Italia’s pace – Formula 1 news
Brazilian driver, Felipe Massa, has once again shown some concerns over the pace of Ferrari’s 2011 car, Ferrari150° Italia.
Massa commented that race pace is good than previous two races of the 2011 season, but still work needs to be done to qualify in higher grid positions in China.
Ferrari stepped in the 2011 season after bagging maximum mileage in the pre-season testing sessions in their car. Ferrari also had the most reliable car of the 2011 season but as soon as their drivers, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, came to Australia
for the season opener, the car presented a complete different story.
Alonso and Massa were trailing well back behind the roaring Red Bull team in the Qualifiers and in the race and were overtaken comprehensively by the Renault’s duo. Apart from speed issues Ferrari team had, Alonso’s car was also showing some reliability
as his rear movable wing malfunctioned during the Sepang race.
Ferrari team sits 3rd in the constructors’ championship table with 36 points which is only 6 points more than the Renault team. Massa seemed depressed about the car’s performance but hoped for a quick recovery for the team.
“For sure we are working on the problems, but it is also true that there were only five days from one race to another for us to bring new pieces,” commented the Brazilian.
Massa also added that the team will try to improve well in the coming races.
Talking about the speeds of both the Ferrari cars, Massa commented that the speed is good. However, he said, “That is not enough if we are more than one second slower in qualifying. Even if the car is better in the race, we still need to push and improve
because it is not enough.”
Two out of three Free Practice sessions are over in China and Alonso is still running his car without the movable wing working properly, which is a big question mark for the Ferrari team because in the long straights of Chinese Grand Prix, the rear wing
will be the decisive factor for the slow Ferrari team to overtake.
The final Free Practice session will be contested on Saturday followed by the Qualifiers.
