Ferrari’s Felipe Massa under pressure as the Brazilian finds it hard to handle the F2012 – Formula 1
Felipe Massa has feels that the F2012 has proved to be extra workload.
Massa finished his first day at the first pre-season test with 69 laps and did another 95 on the second day. After an extensive two-day testing period the Brazilian was evidently exhausted and prominently uncomfortable with the way his car handled for him.
“Actually it's a lot of work,” he after stepping out of the F2012 on Wednesday. “It's a brand new car and it's not like the cars that we've had in the last few years, even to start with. So it's a lot more work, it's a car that you need to try a lot more
things with as well. Today I did so many laps just trying such different things in the car.”
Although the second day’s ragged condition did not help him much but his driving looked quite off when in fact Ferrari are looking to get a head start in the season to improve on the poor showing in the 2011 season.
Ferrari felt that they were not in the running to challenge the leader of the board in 2011 and their president Luca di Montezemolo was quick to admit their failure while committing to improve their performances in the coming season.
Since the end of the 2011 season Montezemolo has advised his team to work harder in order to get the desired results. He also has publicly warned Massa to improve on his performances in the 2012 season otherwise face losing on his race seat with Ferrari
beyond 2012.
Massa has been facing up to the pressure of being able to perform well so that he can retain his race seat.
“We tried a lot of different things and a lot of runs we go out with not everything in the car, just so we can collect that data. It's different to how it was in the past, the programme is much more complicated,” Massa said explaining his woes.
Fernando Alonso will take over the car from Massa for the remainder of the first test but there are two more tests still available prior to the season opening and Massa can still get a better understanding of the car.
