Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso disappointed by retirement from Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is really disappointed with his retirement from the Canadian Grand Prix because he was looking for a victory after a strong start to the weekend.
Alonso suffered an accident during the 37th lap of the Montreal race. His 150° Italia car collided with Jenson Button’s McLaren and due to that, the Spaniard hit the sidewall on the exit corner of turn 3. Following the incident, he had to retire
from the race.
The two-time world champion took a very strong start to the Canadian race weekend, as he finished his Friday practice sessions in an impressive form. The qualifying round bounced him back on the grid towards a potential victory.
He took part in the Canadian Grand Prix looking to win the race, but the accident with Button during the race did not allow him to finish the race.
After the race, the 29-year-old driver claimed “everything went wrong” during the race with him. He also said, “It's a real shame because today we really had a good race pace but we were unlucky: that's not a feeling I have, it's a fact. We had our best
qualifying of the year and we found ourselves starting behind the safety car, when I felt that for me, the intermediates were the best tyre.”
Despite his accident during the Canadian race, Alonso remains positive about his teams’ improving run over the race day.
Alonso went on to add, “The championship is not finished yet, but we must now hope for errors from others to have some hope. Our performance level here was good, especially because of the characteristics of the circuit, but also thanks to the updates we
brought here.”
The team driver further added that Ferrari will have to stay confident for the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season. In addition, he said the team needs to work hard for this season’s world championship.
After a disappointing race weekend in North America, Alonso is hoping for success in the upcoming races of the season. Let’s see if he can manage that.
